CONJURING DESIGN Japanese Woodcut Tote Bag with Vintage Mudcloth from Mali and Artisan Leather Handles
I really enjoy creating totemic and shamanic bags. We carry the things we need every day in them and I like to have elements in each bag that bring shamanic energy into our lives. This one is very special and absolutely gorgeous. I have a collection of powerful Japanese Women woodcut replicas from the 1200s that I love using in my textile creations. This one is a stunner and it is trimmed with vintage mudcloth from Mali. The indigo cotton mudcloth framing the Japanese Woodcut focal piece is a rare indigo mudcloth that really makes the focal piece pop. The top of the bag is trimmed in vintage brown and indigo mudcloth which is very old and a hard to find pattern. The bag base is a heavy weight upholstery designer fabric that I thought really complemented the other textiles. It is lined in a blue Frida Kahlo cotton. I love that there are images of iconic women on the inside and the outside of the bag.The handles are made by an all woman artist cooperative that works in leather for a wonderful and supple handle which is 28" long. The inside is also grand. Lined in a Mexican striped cotton we have our signature interior pockets to make this bag really work for you. We have a loop and clasp at the top for your keys, an iPad pocket and other interior pockets as well that give you a place for things you need and use the most. The back of the bag has a wonderful deep pocket which is perfect to hold a notebook or magazine. This bag is 22" across the top with a heavy duty double zipper and it is 14" high. This is the perfect bag and a total conversation starter!
