This is a statement piece that also holds a very special history. If you've seen many Molas from San Blas you probably haven't seen one with this goddess iconography on it. This textile was created in either the late 1800s or early 1900s. At that time the Goddess Cult was dying out but this gorgeous handworked reverse applique textile is a living testament of a rich and complex goddess worshiping society. The bag is a large overnighter size to accommodate the size of the Mola. I did not dare cut into it. The base fabric on the front is the mola itself framed with indigo mudcloth from Africa and hand embroidered Hmong Hill Tribe embroidered cotton at the bag top. The back of the bag is made from red African mudcloth. I felt the color red was the perfect homage for the ancient goddess. The bag closes with a durable zipper and has artisan leather handles. Drop of the bag is 19". Handles are 32" from end to end. The bag is 24" wide at the top and 18" tall. Width is 6". It is lined in a gorgeous blue, turquoise and green cotton fabric. Custom pockets on the interior for your iPad. This is a true one of a kind piece that holds the sacred energy of the goddess.
