12I have been invited to be a part of a show at the Osborn Woods Gallery Exhibit called RESPOND. This exhibit explores social, environmental and cultural vocabulary in the hopes to incite the viewer to respond, react, and question their community environments. Throughout my life I have been captivated and intrigued by ancient cultures and forgotten stories. These themes have been woven into my many lives as an archaeology student, author, publicist, documentary filmmaker and art to wear designer.
I created a collection of totemic bags for the RESPOND Show using images of two powerful and iconic women who have influenced me in my own journey. One woman from the East,12th Century Japanese Female Samurai, Tomoe Gozen, who has been all but forgotten by history and a woman from the West, Frida Kahlo, loved and remembered through many lenses for her transformational creativity.
My collection draws on the power, strength and transformative energies of these two women through images created in collaboration with artists and designers.
I chose the medium of a tote bag as I find it very powerful to carry these women with us at our side.
Frida #9, "BELIEVABLE" has a focal piece on the front and the back is solid red canvas. The tote bag is 15" tall, 20" wide and 6" deep. has a zipper closure and a pocket inside. The design is on the front and the back is solid red canvas. It has an iconic image of Frida in a self portrait. The bag is $85 and we have added $6.80 for shipping.
