Mayan Moon and Sun Goddess Necklace Silver and Brass 20" Long
This necklace integrates the Mayan Moon Goddess history with that of the sun. The round elements of the necklace are for the moon and the silver rays for the sun. The center focal pendant represents the mid-point where the the Moon goes from being identified as a Goddess emerging from the male gendered Moon God. One of the most intriguing aspects of lunar imagery in ancient Mesoamerica is the bisexual nature of lunar deities. Gender role changing may be intended to mirror the variable nature of the moon which constantly changes its position and appearance when observed. I was inspired to incorporate this concept into a necklace changing out the typical moon metal element as silver to gold and the sun's rays to silver vs gold. The center pendant is the symbol of the sun as the catalyst for this wonderful Mayan Moon Story. The necklace is 20" in wearable length and is made of a high end Alpaca Silver and a unique metal made from Copper, Brass and Zinc to create the gold metal. In ancient Meso America this was created using gold, copper and brass.
